From summer to fall

Garden season 2013 has been a huge success as we move from the summer to the fall. The temperatures are cooler now as we begin to make plans for the fall/winter seasons. We are still harvesting at one site and have begun our fall planting at both sites. We sow seeds in the spring, summer and also the fall. Today we harvested lettuce, collard greens, Swiss chard and tomatoes. We have pruned the rose bush because it grew wild during the season and the thorns were becoming a threat to workers. Some of the fall crops we have planted are dinosaur kale, spinach, mustard greens, collard greens, watermelon radishes, beans, arugula, beets, mesclun lettuce, lettuce, purple kale, purple cabbage, curry, Greek oregano, English thyme and French carrot. In preparation for the fall and our fall planting we have been uprooting dead sunflowers, green tomatoes, marigold and other plants to cut them up for compost. We were able to harvest some tomatoes this season but compared to last year the harvest was less. We reached September/October and most of the tomatoes were still green, so we removed them and planted other plants in their place. Season 2013 has been a great success.
