September to August

The weather is cooling down so we are beginning to uproot plants like tomatoes and sunflowers that have died and cut them up for compost. To this day we continue to harvest but the quantity of the harvest has dramatically decreased. For example:

On 9/14/12 we harvested:
Soybeans: 2 oz.
Cantaloupe: 1 lb. 7 oz.
Watermelon: 12 oz.
Fennel: 2 oz.
Japanese Eggplant: 1 lb. 12 oz.
Red Pepper: 6 oz.
Cubanelle Peppers: 13 oz.
Cherry Tomatoes: 7 lbs.
Beans: 12 oz.
Tomatoes: 2 lbs. 2 oz.
Basil: 6 oz.
Kale: 1 lb. 4 oz.
Chard: 2 lbs. 4 oz.
Collards: 2 lbs. 4 oz.
Celery: 3 oz.
A total of 21 lbs. 9 oz.

On 9/21/12 we harvested:
Tomatoes: 1 lb. 6 oz.
Cubanelle Peppers: 11 oz.
Collards: 14 oz.
Chard: 13 oz.
Kale: 1 lb. 4 oz.
A total of 5 lbs.

Work on the greenhouse began a few weeks ago. It will be located at the Morris Ave. site. According to John C. it will take about 10 weeks to build if we work one day a week. On October 12 The Bridge hosted 31 people from member organizations of the Supportive Housing Network of New York (SHNNY) for a seminar on Horticulture 101. Finally, I harvested the worm bin for the 7th time and I added the worm compost the the garden at E 111 St.
