(Growing parsley)
Welcome to our adventures in urban farming in NYC! What began as an experiment with growing a few veggies in the Bronx has become a great success for our Bridge clients and community. This is an online record of our experiences on the farm, written by Stacey Van Rossum, with photos taken by Natalie Brickajlik, the Coordinator of our Horticulture Program. Thanks to funding from Burpee and The United Way of New York, our program was made possible!

The Garden Grows

(Strawberries)
(Thyme, lavender, and ?feverfew?)
We have begun harvesting plants. So far we have harvested collards, lettuce, broccoli, mustard greens, kale, rhubarb chard, swiss chard, arugula and sage. This year we are weighing our produce to keep records of the lbs. of food that we grow. Natalie bought ladybugs to release into the garden since they eat the harmful insects like aphids. Here are some pictures of both gardens.

Progress at both gardens

(Thyme, lavender & tomatoes)
(Chamomile & mint)
(View of all 4 beds)
We have planted all of the seedlings that were delivered. Slowly, the plants are growing. Thus far we have harvested arugula from both locations since they were beginning to bolt. With the increasing heat, the necessity to water increases so we water twice a day on work days and various members of the team come on off days and weekends. Here are some pictures of Morris Ave. :
